Zach: State of Tennessee Launches Another 'Official' Investigation

We last left this never-ending story - about the 16-year-old gay blogger imprisoned in a brainwashing camp - with the news that the State of Tennessee had decided to continue to look into the Love In Action facility, even though the Department of Children's Services had terminated its own investigation.

At that time, the Tennessee Department of Health indicated that it had notified Love In Action that it was suspected of operating illegally and perhaps "causing harm."

A spokesperson for the Governor indicated that the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Department was "also researching" Love In Action and might decide to launch its own 'official' investigation.

That 'official' investigation is now in progress:

"
MEMPHIS, Tenn. A Memphis group that counsels young gays is again under state investigation. Love In Action was cleared by state investigators of abuse allegations after a teenage blogger named "Zach" from Bartlett wrote that his parents made him go to the group in an attempt to change his orientation to heterosexual. Children's Services Department investigators determined the allegations of child abuse were unfounded.

Now, the state Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Department has opened an investigation because Love in Action is also offering counseling in drug and alcohol addiction. State officials say they can't do that without a license.

Group executive director John Smid says they'll change their Web site wording and direct clients to established, off-site drug and alcohol counseling services.

Smid says that counseling is "a very minor aspect" of the group's work. "
