John Roberts: Stepford Wife of Bush Dynasty - Dems Should Visualize a Spine

There is still a lot of talk about the absence of a paper trail which offers undeniable evidence that John Roberts is as radical as Scalia, Thomas and George W. Bush. Without that paper trail some Dems seem to think they have no choice other than to submit to Bush.

But those of us who count women's reproductive freedom as the prerequisite to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness already have all the evidence we need to justify a refusal to put any faith in the proposition that Roberts will one day be the swing vote that saves Roe.

If so little is known about Roberts, then how come conservatives are jumping with glee over his nomination?

Maybe because conservatives are banking on Roberts' long association with the Bushes and his long habit of supporting all things Bush.

Roberts was President George H.W. Bush's deputy solitictor general when he wrote the now famous legal brief for the Supreme Court stating: "We continue to believe that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and should be overruled."

He "
advised Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on how his Legislature might name George W. Bush as the winner of the state's crucial presidential vote in 2000."

He "Join[ed] a ruling that upheld the Bush administration's use of military tribunals to try battlefield captives and terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba."

He "Dissent[ed] "from his court's refusal to reconsider a ruling that ordered Vice President Dick Cheney to release records of his energy task force. "

He "Join[ed] a ruling that upheld the Bush administration's position denying nearly $1 billion in damages against the Iraqi government in a suit by Gulf War veterans who were captured and tortured by Saddam Hussein's government. "

Maybe conservatives are so happy with Roberts because they recognize that he is yet another one of the Bush Stepford Wives, famous for prizing loyalty to the Bush Dynasty above all else.

Democrats need to start now on the project of visualizing a spine.
